The firm won 2 separate awards for house
designs in this competition. The winning entries are built
in Atlanta's historic neighborhoods of Inman Park and Candler
Park. The designs were noted for their responsiveness to
the context and the fresh approach to the traditional styles
used.

to exemplify 6 out of 7 smart growth criteria. These include:
Green space preservation, Compact design, Walkability, Range
of housing opportunities, Growth in existing Communities,
Transportation choices. Mixed Use was not included as a category
for this award. |

This award is presented each year to the
organization, private or NGO, for superior leadership in
promoting environmental sustainability. Recent recipients
of the Award for Excellence include: The Turner Foundation,
Habitat for Humanity International, the Georgia Conservancy,
and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Community Design Award

In a special competition of projects in the United States,
3 projects were recognized for excellence in providing communities
of Mixed Use and Mixed Income. East Lake Commons has home
ownership from government subsidized up to luxury custom designed.
In addition their are rental units as part of owner occupied
homes. The community is also noted for including urban agriculture
for its employment and education opportunities. |

World Habitat Award
2000
|
The World Habitat Award is a joint project of the United
Nations Habitat Division and the Building and Social Housing
Foundation. East Lake Commons was selected unanimously from
150 entries from around the globe as the best example of environmentally
responsible and socially just development.

AIA Georgia
Merit in Design
Sustainability
1999
|
In 1999 the AIA Ga. gave only 3 merit awards for projects
incorporating sustainable design features. The Cane Creek
Farm community design earned one of those awards. In the predevelopment
phase, this community utilizes all of the development rights
of 380 acres while permanently preserving 85% of the land
area for farm and woodland.

Designed and developed by this firm, Lake Claire Commons
is the first Cohousing community in Georgia. The project consists
of homes originally priced from 43% of median to 120% of median.
This community is pedestrian priority with the parking at
the perimeter and pedestrian lanes among the 13 homes.

In 1998 AIA Ga gave 4 Excellence awards for sustainability.
This firm received 2 of those awards. Through an interactive
process the Community Plan for the historic neighborhood of
Lake Claire provides guides for: Alternative transportation
within and through the neighborhood, Architectural guides
for new development, and Watershed protection measures any
resident can use. |
